No enemies to the left, no friends to the right

“What if” is a right wing/libertarian blog.  Yet strangely, is incapable of seeing evil – when evil is on the left.

When however alleged evil is on the right, has not the slightest difficulty in seeing evil.

Those who kiss upwards, can usually be relied on to spit downwards.

Similarly consider his reaction to the comedian Imus:

IMUS: That’s some rough girls from Rutgers. Man, they got tattoos and—

McGUIRK: Some hard-core hos.

IMUS: That’s some nappy-headed hos. I’m gonna tell you that now, man, that’s some—whew. And the girls from Tennessee, they all look cute, you know, so, like—kinda like—I don’t know.

McGUIRK: A Spike Lee thing.

IMUS: Yeah.

McGUIRK: The Jigaboos vs. the Wannabes—that movie that he had.

“What if” tells us:

When I first heard the tape play, I felt a little sick. One can hear ugly speech easily with the communications available to us today. But, to hear these kinds of comments about college students is particularly gross.

The problem being that Imus’s are low status, while Obama’s words are high status – and so will never make “What if” feel a little sick.

Peg says:

Jim, I think you may be the first person ever to complain that I am not critical of the left. Usually I get the opposite critcism; pandering to the right and only complaining about the left.

If you think that I am never critical of Obama – or the left – then you have missed a whole lot of posts……..

jim says:

You disagree with Obama, yet cannot see evil when evil spits in your face. Whereas, if someone does agree with you, but speaks the truth disturbingly plainly, you will spit in his face and pronounce him evil, your evil detectors will ring like a five alarm fire.

There is nothing wrong with your ideology. There is a problem with your alliances. “No friends to the right, no enemies to the left” does not imply that someone is left wing. It implies that he is a friend to his enemies, and an enemy to his friends, regardless of whether those to the left of him are those to the left of Reagan, or those to the left of Pol Pot, regardless of whether those the right of him are those to the right of Mao, or those the right of King Charles the first, since those to the left tend to also follow the policy of no friends to the right, no enemies to the left.

Analogously, Muslims, including supposedly moderate Muslims, generally follow a policy of no friends that are less Islamic, no enemies that are more Islamic.

The dynamics of theocracy are that the moderates support the extremists out of piety, and the extremists purge the moderates out of piety. Just as our establishment sees no enemies leftwards and no friends
rightwards, and so moves ever leftwards, the Muslim establishment sees no enemies godwards and no friends worldwards, and so moves ever godwards.
