I have a subset of friends from when I was young that are chronically unsuccessful with women, and I’ve gradually changed my ideas about them over the years. Obviously women can’t stand him. I used to think women were wrong, as he’s capable and loyal and hard working and physically fit. He would give a woman a good, stable life, better than most. Perhaps it is an atavism that he is being selected out, but I’m not so sure anymore. He wouldn’t put a pointy stick through someone, even though he physically could do a decent job of it. Should a guy like that be selected out? Above average in quite a few ways, poor social skills, terrible assertiveness.

I believe the catholic nations secularized because they demanded celibacy of all their priests, selecting religiosity out of their gene pool too much. While protestants demanded their pastors be married and have many children, pushing too much religiosity into the gene pool and catalyzing some of the religious madness that took the 19th and early 20th century Americas.
I don’t idealize the eastern sects of Christianity but I suspect they got it right when they demanded their monks and bishops, the extremely religious, be celibate, but often had local priests be married with families. I think that’s the right balance.
In the same way I don’t think merely selecting for high intelligence is good. The Wright brothers opting not to marry is fine, and the high IQ but socially inept type being bad with women is fine.
