crash, data loss

I made a change that caused my automatic backups to stop working, and I failed to notice.

Then the server died, and I had to reformat the hard disk and restore from backup — at which point I discovered the problem with my backups.

As a result, we have lost about a month of posts and comments.

Please check your browser cache for recent articles. My cache is empty.

whoopsi.

Eh, it happens.

Right now, everyone make a copy of your browser cache. Everything you’ve read recently should be in there. I cleared my cache a couple days ago, then read all the Jim articles that had recent comments. Before I even run Firefox on that device, “cp -a .mozilla .mozilla.jim”

Jim will tell us later what he’s missing and how we should upload it.

Damn the sexcession post was a pretty good solid article.
It had a lot of good summaries that I wished to have saved, bummer

I was able to visit the sexcession page in wayback machine

A poignant reminder of the old saw, “an untested backup isn’t a backup”.

My last visit was 5 days ago, so other people probably have newer copies or even the SQL dump, but happy to send what I have regardless if you want it for reconstruction.

This is the only active blog that covers what Dalrock did before he closed shop. It is always troubling when the site has issues.

cobblestones says:

What did Dalrock do before he closed shop?

Johnny says:

Realtalk about relationships between men and women, from a red-pilled Christian point of view. In its time, it was one of the most perceptive and clear-eyed manosphere blogs.

You can download the whole archived blog at https://theredarchive.com/blog/Dalrock

m says:

Dalrock banned me, for saying very much what I have been saying during the entire history of this blog.

Dalrock was great, but he pulled his punches. Men just have no alternative but to be a lot more alpha than he recommends, more willing to break the law, and more willing to openly defy blue pill social norms than he recommends.

I cannot remember exactly what the issue was, but I don’t think you will find Dalrock saying that moment to moment sexual consent is wrong and wicked, that consent must be once and forever, that females are inherently incompetent at sexual choice, since we are descended from populations where they did not get to exercise it, and that because of this inherent incompetence, female consent does not make sex right, nor lack of consent make it wrong, that “age of consent” laws are silly because women are no more fit to give consent to sex and marriage at thirty than they are at nine.

Dalrock’s blog also suffered a distinct lack of real practical advice on actually getting a woman, and on making a relationship durable. It seemed to me that he found such advice distressing. Pretty sure he would not have liked my advice on who does the housework: “If women do not get exploited, they do not feel owned. If they do not feel owned, they get difficult. Women want to serve. … She needs and wants to be cherished, but she also wants a man who can treat her like a rented mule, and from time to time needs proof that he can and will.”

It seemed to me he was advising betas how to navigate the sexual market place. If you are beta, not going to be able to navigate the sexual market place unless you are so handsome that businesses pay you money to put your face on their products. My advice is to stop being beta. Or at least stop being perceived by women as beta. Perhaps because I was older and balder than most of his target audience, and used to be fatter, my prescriptions tend to be drastic. But the only guy I saw getting places with milder measures was paid money for his face.

Also I routinely tell men that if they are not willing to break the law, unlikely to get laid. Not seeing that advice on Dalrock. You will not hear on Dalrock that the major cause of workplace sexual harassment charges is failure to sexually harass women.

Snickerdoodle says:

That is too bad. He should not have banned you. And I agree that Dalrock did not strike at the heart of the issue like you do that women like unlawful, dangerous men etc.

I do believe he did great work with his article, “We are Trapped on Slut Island and Traditional Conservatives are Our Gilligan.” It highlights the importance of slut shaming to control female behavior.

In my opinion, not even Rollo Tomassi focuses on the essentials of the ancestral past as much as Jim does. It is like Tomassi expects the reader to be so familiar with his writing, Martie Haselton and with Sai Gaddam’s research to then understand what he is talking about.

That sounds like an absolute nightmare, Jim. There’s nothing worse than that sinking feeling when the screen goes blank. Were you able to salvage anything from the transaction logs, or was it a complete start-from-scratch situation?

Jim says:

Start from scratch, restore from backup.

USA has an ongoing severe problem with its IT systems and personnel security for the last 35+ years. Spies infesting and exfiltrating data from all its institutions…

https://x.com/Osint613/status/2075470244039000396

Gone is the 10-25+ year buffer delay.

You cannot maintain an edge when the second you invent and advance something new the entire plan and its schematics are immediately exfiltrated overseas.

Only way to get it back is to execute and export all the foreigners and lock shit down.

c4ssidy says:

Seems like something to shrug one’s shoulders at if concerned about the bigger picture. Having a Chinese and Russian city on Mars a few years behind Elon seems like a positive, it adds redundancy to the project. There’s probably a level of leakage that is optimal for humanity, different from optimal for the nation state

You could make the same argument for industry in general. If most trade secrets are not formally patented, and since personnel drift between companies, small innovations eventually transmit and spread. The leaks would balance out and have a net positive for everyone, even if nominally against the rules. It’s like a purposefully tolerated level of chaos in society, as no one has really envisioned a more formal way to manage the process

Spy.Hunter.14 says:

Sure there will always be some natural background level of tech leakage carried via the human mind. Not all the formula data which can’t be memorized, but the ideas.

Elon recognizes redundancy and competition, which is partly why he
a) claims to be opensource
b) multihomes in China, soon perhaps in Ecuador

Else he would not do those two things, wouldn’t hire any foreigners, or allow any non-SCIF open Internet access in Corporate MuskTown, would patdown/mri/analprobe all staff, seal USB ports, bio-access, etc.

Musk does allow TOP-SECRET though.

Big Picture is one thing, but that ideal model of “competition among few leading advanced friendlies” kindof assumes that Humanity has already given up trying to genocide each other via political/holy war. Such that at least “you” (ie: your sub-fork of the genome) will still be among the “winning” group of the “advanced” types.

This leakage problem between not-actually-too-friendlies also works in reverse…

Rupert Lowe recognizes what happens to an advanced tech/Civ when one genocidal Political party intentionally leaks a bunch of low-tech anti-ware into the system.

“Contact” (film 1997, and even 1992 and 2009) also had some of this compete/co-op/forks element in it.

Big Picture 1: Unclear if Humanity will survive long enough to get off the rock without crashing/exhausting/exterminating itself.

Big Picture 2: But if you want to be among the leading sub-forks that does get off the rock, you probably don’t want to be leaking as much, lest you end up becoming the equivalent of the Aboriginal that never really got anywhere but being wholly out-competed and left behind.

Big Picture 3: Nor do you want to be allowing genocidal Parties to outright replacement-genocide you.

Which in case of possible genocide by a holy-cult species that does not value or pursue tech advancement, or smashes it… means no one gets off the rock in that anti-tech case either.

Spray-and-pray with tech is probably a fine idea, but we’re not yet past the various genocidal stages in which your sub-fork is guaranteed to survive and benefit from that strategy assumption.

Unless you think spraying all sub-forks of the Civ down with tech will create some kind of tech-preserving tech-valuing utopianism modality that eschews genocide as being against the higher holy-priority cause of tech-ing itself.

Probably still too much risk of being genocided… including being permanently sabotaged back into the stone age by whoever does become first to get off the rock… to be giving away so much tech that you zero-day your own tech delay buffer protective-edge +1 guarantee ace-in-the-hole.

Then there is the question of genociding other unique tech development regions of the planet. Such as if they become too soley possesive of tech, and intent on genociding or leaving you behind.

These dilemmas are certainly nothing new, have been present throughout human history.
Only now we actually do have the ability to more or less efficiently genocide each other via Nukes, and very soon via COVID.

Jim says:

> Now we actually do have the ability to more or less efficiently genocide each other via Nukes, and very soon via COVID.

We cannot ensure that only a single power has the capability to destroy civilization, because knowledge will inevitably leak. It seems that the Mongols got gunpowder at swordpoint from Chinese prisoners, and the Christians gunpowder at swordpoint from Mongol prisoners, and after that no one was even trying to keep a lid on it.

And if one power dominates the whole world, and the entire solar system, sooner or later it will have internal quarrels. Observe how we cannot agree on energy and cooling. America is near civil war already.

We have to figure out a way to not kill each other any more. Reflect on the concert of Europe.

Mayflower Sperg says:

The Abos didn’t fail because their technology leaked, they failed because the white men who landed on their shores in 1788 had not yet learned to worship niggers.

Tech leakage forces sentient races to compete on a level playing field, a huge disadvantage for those who expend resources on handouts to non-sentient races. This competition will eventually push the latter back into the jungles they came from.

If the USA became a colony of China, white people would be second-class citizens, a huge step up from the absolute pariahs we are now.

The Cominator says:

Yes was it you who posted the link to the cartoon about that (Murdoch Murdoch?) where China took over and everything was better. And yes second class would be way way better than what white men have now which is us being one step above being a jew in the 3rd Reich.

Oh here it is…
