I didn’t like it back then, still don’t like it. One thing that keeps me from commenting much on the situation is that, similarly to when the Russia/Ukraine war started, I always turn out to know less about such conflicts than I think. Did Iran not have a bunch of allies in the neighborhood? Guess not because they’re attacking everyone. Can the strait of Hormutz be kept open? If the West can barely deal with a bunch of Yemeni pirates in the red sea, how is this different? I don’t know.
Point is, I don’t think even Trump knows. I think he just likes the toys he has at his disposal, that he hates how previous presidents did not use them to their potential, and that aiming these toys at enemy leaders and taking them out makes him feel, not unjustifiably, rather powerful. Only in a limited tactical scope, the strategic picture is still up in the air.
Iran can hit stationary targets with their missiles and not US Navy ships unless they get really lucky. Anti-ship missiles in general require secondary radar to paint the target and communicate course corrections, usually some kind of manned aircraft flying high (which they don’t have) or human operated drone (which is susceptible to EW). Anti-ship missiles fly low to avoid detection and interception, but in doing so are flying mostly blind because they can’t see over the horizon which is critical when dealing with typical naval warfare distances. The inbuilt radar these missiles use are mostly for the final approach.
American air supremacy can paint the missiles and communicate to navy ships the required maneuvers to avoid radar lock-on, and F-35’s EW disrupts drones. That’s before the missiles encounter the layered air defenses these ships have which have not been utilized much or even at all during this conflict. These missiles still pose a massive threat to civilian oil tankers which do not have data link to painted incoming missiles, whose trajectory is well known and telegraphed, and are just generally big soft targets. The Iranians can still blind fire their missiles and more than likely they will still lock onto big oil tankers often enough to create massive incentive to not go through the strait.
The result being Israel soaks up most Iranian ballistic missiles (which I don’t care about) and legacy US bases in the middle east get dismantled (we were going to have to leave eventually anyways), but US personnel losses remain fairly low. This doesn’t mean the US wins.
This leaves Trump with few options should the Iranian regime not crack, in order of escalation.
Declare victory and leave.
Indefinite bombing campaign.
Ground invasion.
Nuclear options.
Option 3 ends Trump, option 2 will get more and more costly domestically the longer this goes on and will eventually force another option. Option 1 is terribly embarrassing and is effectively an Iranian victory. Option 4 is interesting, and if played right, would be the foundation of a new world order. Here’s how.

This speech and nuclear strike would need to be followed up with immediate direct communications with the Russians stating immediate unilateral US withdraw from Ukraine support and an end to all sanctions among other concessions. The announcement of desire for a Joint US-Russia Nuclear Security Agreement both solidifying our nuclear shared nuclear supremacy and a renewal of certain arms limits. China would have to get a different deal that combines trading Taiwan without a fight only after relocation of critical technology production to the US.
Option 4 is not without some pretty large risks, but again, it is at least on paper, the most interesting choice if played correctly.

1. Hard-forks are not a problem (unless they’re a soft-fork hard-f*cking itself), other than that the air drops are not voluntary. Tax authorities have ruled that the income (thus income taxable) occurs at the moment of the hard-fork, whether the taxpayer spends the air-drop or not, they already possess the private key.
2. Blockstream is corrupt a.f. (not Epstein was funding it too), but that is not necessary for my argument. I believe “Satoshi” (i.e. the Rothschild or whoever is the great global power behind the curtain manipulating all the nations) actually had a hand in Blockstream being created. A few points that flesh out your case, which I find generally correct anyways:

This comparison is often made by post-Christians, but is flawed.
The implicit reasoning is always something like: ‘well back then they didn’t know what caused thunder so they believed in the thunder God.’ And for Christians: ‘well back then they thought miracles were real so they believed in Jesus Christ.’
The reasoning misunderstands both modes of faith.
Most importantly, we are about as scientifically minded as well as ignorant about the universe as our forefathers. Greek philosophy, a result of pagan civilisation, was notably scientifically minded. Now, Christianity. Also started out similar to other ancient faiths! ‘The Gods of our forefathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.’ Even if God was not a human forefather himself, the tracing of lineage has always been very important in the Old Testament.
But then comes along Christ who breaks open the faith for everyone! No longer are we dependent on an unbroken chain of ancestors. Now we have a monotheistic faith whose entire mythos can be reconstructed through the bible and a bit of historical knowledge. Hence, the analogy of the mustard seed. Even if the chain is broken, as many here complain it is, can be repaired.
And that is why bringing back Christianity is not at all the same endeavor as bringing back Zeus or Odin.
I often say I am the last Anglican — which is of course hyperbole. But there are rather few white western Anglicans. I think we do need apostolic succession. But any man who has apostolic succession can give it to other men. You can carefully craft your protocol all you want, but metadata always leaks. There is always some information gained, your anonymity set is never going to be the entire internet, and I don’t see a feasible way to grow it to the size of a large social network. The second it gets big enough you will have several independent organizations sniffing around every assosciated data center and ISP, and they will eventually find something.
The dynamics change if we have a friendly jurisdiction. People have been studying these problems since 2006. We have solutions for all of them.
It is a lot of work, but we know how to do it. These solutions are well known and well understood.
It’s known you sent packets to an address assosciated with the bitmessage network. They may not know *to whom* those packets were meant, but now you are marked as a participant.
So you have to tunnel in from somewhere else if bitmessage is now considered a terrorist organization. And those packets better be indistinguishable from regular web data. From the very first handshake.
When the channel is hostile, you can make the message contents secure, but information about the participants is bound to leak to some degree or another. It’s asymmetric in that the state can bumble on for years, decades, but if you have one screwup in all that time, you lost.
Just seems like the wrong problem to solve. At least not all at once. Bitcoin and signal (and tor) seemed to be allowed through because different spook factions found them useful. If your network got enough traction, they would spend a lot of resources to find you and convert, arrest or kill you. Maybe you escape. Does everyone? Does that calculus make enough sense to convince enough talented men to work long and hard enough to actually follow through?
What you suggest is that the state might ban any encryption it does not have the keys for. So far, no state has done this, but they might. I don’t idealize the eastern sects of Christianity but I suspect they got it right when they demanded their monks and bishops, the extremely religious, be celibate, but often had local priests be married with families. I think that’s the right balance.
In the same way I don’t think merely selecting for high intelligence is good. The Wright brothers opting not to marry is fine, and the high IQ but socially inept type being bad with women is fine. I think going hard into abstract intelligence would have negative externalizes for humanity. Women selecting for the above average Joe who is well rounded is probably for the best for our species.
