So Reagan and Thatcher were permitted to win, and permitted to back off from destructive redistribution towards the Laffer limit — conditional on the destruction of marriage and family going full speed ahead, and mass migration going full speed ahead.
Back in the 1930s, when Hitler was elected, the inner party in America decided to abandon the destruction of marriage and family in favor of the destruction of capitalism, for the destruction of marriage and family makes a nation militarily weak, while socialism, by making it able to temporarily tax far above the Laffer limit, makes it temporarily strong. Then in the 1960s, the destruction of marriage and family resumed. The problem with your idea is that the whole point of opposing drug dealing is to NOT have those drugs on the market. There is the danger of perverse incentives in what you are proposing.

Anyone who’s familiar with the actual process of development can tell you, and Jim frequently has, that “AI” cannot code. It can generate something vaguely resembling a working program, and can sometimes automate tedious refactoring tasks without too many errors, but it is not actually intelligent, does not understand the reality of specifications or tradeoffs, and does not even really grok the concept that code is supposed to compile and do something. It’s just words.
What it produces is trash, but high-quality structured trash that can occasionally be salvaged by a competent enough human programmer to produce a very modest productivity boost over writing from scratch. Where the GPTs really do excel is in finding quick answers to questions that have been answered before, but not frequently enough to have been memorized by everyone in the profession. The chatbots are an improvement over scouring Stack Overflow questions, GitHub issues and a dozen other information sources one by one.
Now here’s the rub: a lot of folks graduating with CS degrees, including most of the women and almost all the Indians, aren’t really sentient either. They get an assignment from the boss or lead and regurgitate the specs into Stack Overflow or ChatGPT. Or they just don’t do the work, or they try random solutions and hope something passes. “Plz send teh codes” has been a meme for what must be 20 years by now. And it’s not just the Indians and DEI hires, although they’re statistically the worst of the bunch. CS degrees really are worthless now; any hiring manager who knows his stuff, and isn’t under the thumb of a hostile HR department, is not even going to look at education, he is going to look at past job references and published open source contributions, or if the candidate does not have any or needs to keep them private, he’ll ask them to solve some moderately difficult problem in an interview setting.
So, to finally get to the point here, what you’re referencing is both true and not true. The layoffs are true, and the bloatedness of the big tech workforce including employees whose job title on paper is “engineer” or “programmer”, is completely true. What’s not true is that AI is replacing or can replace skilled engineers. It is replacing email jobs and copy-paste jobs; it is replacing the sorts of employees who were already subtracting value from the company by creating extra problems for the competent employees to solve.
Unfortunately, because of the legal regime we’re in, which prohibits actually firing people for gross incompetence, a lot of actually competent employees are also being laid off, and the fact is that nothing and no one is replacing them. The productive output of the business is probably going to suffer, if not already suffering severely, and we may very well witness a dot-com bubble 2.0 in which companies that everyone thought would be around forever suddenly disappear in a matter of months or weeks. Such is the nature of collapse – first slowly, then quickly.
The problem is, half the point of people riding the coat tails of leftism is to enable the total deracination of man from father, family, friends so they can become these little cogs in a cubicle working like prison labor with no hopes or dreams in sight.
Suddenly, these people are laid off, and they have nothing to pull them back in. Will they start a revolution? Nope, they will just… disappear.

In some companies, middle managers are doing a somewhat competent job of persuading upper management that it is the grunts who are redundant, not the middle managers, and hopping on the AI bandwagon is one of the tools in their rhetorical kit. What happens with grunts depends on the company, and as I said, in many companies there are a lot of workers whose job title is “software developer” on paper but are still actually dead weight. Too many CS degrees, too many tech illiterates or near-illiterates who just wanted an easy and lucrative air conditioned office job, especially women but not always women. Not “good men” – some of them, yes, but far from all.
Problem is that no company can just fire all the women and Indians. They cannot fire all the women and Indians even if they have a perfect paper trail demonstrating that they are all totally worthless and incompetent, because it is disparate impact, guilt by statistics and insinuation. Since they cannot target the dead weight directly, they do mass layoffs, and pray that in the not too distant future, they will be able to hire back some of the good employees, or find other good employees to replace them, using a kind of revolving door between companies like Google and Amazon, or by buying out startups created by ex-employees.
This is not such a new thing; it happens in waves and cycles, probably once every 10-20 years. Each time, they hope this gambit will pay off in the end, and very often it does; but each time they do it, they burn up a certain amount of trust and good will, and end up with permanent attrition of the talent pool. It cannot go on forever, at least not within a single industry. The best of the best decide it’s time to retire, or start their own business, or what have you.
ChatGPT, Copilot etc. put a new spin on things, but it’s not really that significant a factor. It’s mostly economics.
