I think this one is likely to escalate to actual shots fired by both sides, because the Democrats will think themselves morally and constitutionally entitled to the usual and customary levels of electoral fraud, and will expansively interpret those customary and usual forms of fraud in a way that will look to Republicans like a radical expansion of the usual and customary levels of fraud.

Obviously what you are calling Jimianity is the faith and the religious and political institutions modeled on the unity of Church and State that was re-established in England in the Restoration. Which I am sure you would regard as fascist, but was rightly thought of as ancient and traditional British Liberty. A liberty for gentlemen of the right ancestry and religion. (And everyone else had to suck it up.)
I reject however, the toleration act of 1689, which was undeniably a great advance for liberty of religious dissent within limits, but those limits rapidly got stretched, and turned out to be the camel’s nose in the tent for the state religion of Moloch and Ishtar, paving the way for the Family court, AFDC, child protective services in including protection of groomers selling transition to children.
Modern, political-party libertarians are the expendable down’s syndrome shock troopers of the political left. They soften up drug laws, border controls, vice laws and more on demand, without ever striking at the welfare payments or surveillance state that should make up the other half of their program.
Theory-libertarian’s negative critiques of socialism and regulatory burden have always been more accurate than their positive prescriptions for how to organize society. Hans-Herman Hoppe was the closest they came to a political theorist who might be trusted near the levers of power without immanentizing the eschaton – and it’s no coincidence he’s the one most opposed to democracy and most bordering on a monarchist.
Reading de Tocqueville in my youth, I was struck that he was describing in some respects the closest thing to a functioning, real world libertarian society I’ve seen. Yet simultaneously deeply unfree in other respects, at least to a modern left-libertarian’s sensibilities. Necessarily so, for a high trust society to function, it requires strong families, strong fathers, and strong churches. (And even this silver age failed exactly as Tocqueville predicted, “until the majority learns it can vote itself largesse from the public treasury…”)
All of which is to say, and speaking for myself not Jim, a fascist fist in a libertarian glove is the only kind of functioning and stable libertarianism I can begin to imagine.
Not my read on libertarianism for the past 20 or so years. It’s generally nice suburban White kids that got into it because of an unconscious assumption that everyone else acts and thinks like nice suburban White people. As they grew older and realize a number of groups simply aren’t nice suburban Whites, they go reactionary.
The party mainly only existed from the 1990s to 2010s as a pipeline. I too was once a libertarian. Many of my highschool peers were too. At my age, I mainly see the pipeline closed and a few old die hards clinging to normality bias. You really don’t see many young libertarians around these days. The kids are all watching Andrew Tate and Asmongold, and that’s reflected on 4chan’s /pol/.

Sure, but what about his successor? Lavrov has called the US agreement incapable. It would be understandable if the Iranians also consider the US agreement incapable.
That Trump has probably only 2 more years as president might not matter so much if Trump wanted only protection money. Protection money is always paid for a limited time only and when that time is up a new payment is due – or the deal is off and no new payment is made. However, Trump wants something that cannot be given periodically, namely Iran’s uranium. If the administration after Trump does not feel bound to whatever deal Trump made, Iran will probably find it difficult to get new uranium.
My impression is that Trump would indeed do his best to fulfill any deal he makes, but I doubt he has enough power to keep his part of a deal with Iran. E.g. let’s assume he orders Iranian assets to be unfrozen. Then a judge somewhere in the US might say, no the assets are still frozen because reasons.
I very much doubt Trump’s successor will feel obliged to keep any deal Trump made. If Trump’s successor is a democrat, he might even feel compelled to violate any deal Trump made, just to spite Trump’s legacy.
Yes, Trump or no Trump, the US is not agreement-capable. That hasn’t changed.

I don’t know if this is you in comedy mode or what, but you can’t add muscle mass fasting every other day.
You can if your body has enough fat to consume, and that’s usually the problem. The discipline of fasting will do good for both body and spirit. Then as you get leaner, maybe you schedule your rest days on fasting days.
The hilariously thing is he said this on my day one of an attempted 5 day fast (I’m on about hour 40 right now). I definitely couldn’t do it every other day.

If so then he should have said that. But I am heavily skeptical. I swept the Net for studies on this and none found that muscle was ever gained on a alternate-day fasting regimen. The standard finding is losses of both fat and muscle. There are plenty of studies that say you can maintain muscle on a different fasting schedule – intra-day 16:8 – and one that found that a group of women gained muscle on that intra-day fasting regimen. No studies I could turn up found muscle gains on an alternate-day fasting regimen.
I did find two internet randos in the comments of a Reddit thread who said that they’d done it, for what that’s worth.
Yeah, while Humungus and Wulfgar’s hearts are in the right place, our bodies remain bound by the laws of physics. Specifically, muscle tissue is protein, and muscle hypertrophy requires protein input. Short-term caloric deficit and/or ketosis are OK, it’s certainly possible to burn fat and build muscle at the same time, though I’ve not met a single lifter who was able to carry that trend past the newbie-gains stage, and in any case, fasting every other day means you’re not getting enough protein for new muscle (unless you’re gorging on the non-fast days, but that kinda defeats the purpose). Eventually you always have to make a choice, fat loss or muscle gain.
The tried-and-true bulking and cutting routine is based on the principle that during the cutting phase, you can maintain muscle while losing fat, but it’s incompatible with hypertrophy which is why (afaik) cutting is always done during the high-weight/low-rep phase of any periodization program. Even then, it usually still results in muscle loss, just less muscle lost than what the bulking added, and hopefully a lot more fat lost.
Now maybe Humungus doesn’t care about adding muscle mass and this is more of a lifestyle choice, you know, becoming more mentally resilient or whatever, but if we go by the everyman’s definition of “getting stronger” then no, you won’t.
Humungus and I are talking about starting off; an initial shock to the system to get someone who is carrying lots of extra fat to start shedding it and building muscle. If whoever starts is fasting every other day, it is not going to take too long for them to see progress. If they reach the ends of their newbie gains, then they should have lost enough fat that they no longer need to fast every other day. It is an admittedly extreme program designed to handle an equally extreme state of physical sloth and decrepitude. If you are not seriously overweight and have decent physical conditioning, you do not need to starve yourself.
Long fasts are good for any sort of chronic disease even if you are not overweight (though if you are going to do a long fast should put on a LITTLE extra weight before doing it to prevent any chance of muscle being consumed).
I understand that, but it’s as Neurotoxin says, you aren’t going to “get stronger” with that program in the sense of actually adding muscle. You might look better, since less fat makes existing muscle tone more visible. You might even technically make “gains” in the amount of weight lifted, but these are going to be gains in neuromuscular efficiency, not muscle tissue. You cannot hack the timing; the human body averages it out over a much longer period, and every experiment that properly controls for both training volume and total protein intake finds that meal timing makes no difference.
Mike makes a separate but good point below. Infrequent, long-term fasts appear to have particular health benefits if done for 3 days or longer. “Intermittent fasting” does not have any of those benefits, whether it is intraday (usually 8/16) or every other day. IF is really just a way of maintaining calorie control discipline, since most people won’t feel like eating a huge meal after a 16- or 40-hour fast.
If the goal is to lose a a lot of weight quickly then sure, knock yourself out and fast every other day. But you will also lose muscle this way, not get stronger, even if you lift weights, and even if it seems inconsequential compared to the fat loss. And if you are going to spend that many days fasting, if you have the discipline to do that anyway, then you would be better off fasting on consecutive days to get those specific benefits.

It depends you will certainly NOT add muscle mass fasting but if you are overweight you will not lose any either even with a long (5-7 day) fast. Fasting gets rid of fat, bad proteins and bad cells, the body consuming muscle is a last resort. Also theoretically with the right regimen you can add muscle mass after your fast as you will have much elevated levels of human growth hormone.
Unless you are already at a very low % bodyfat and especially if you have any sort of metabolic disorder you absolutely should do long fasts every once in a while until you clear up your weight and chronic problems… but long fasts are better because of autophagy (your body clears out all sorts of old bad stuff) , metabolic reset (and the reset of potentially a lot of other malfunctioning systems), and the fact you’ll be spiking your human growth hormone and actually uniquely generating new stem cells.
When I needed to lose weight without losing muscle I did keto. It’s annoying if you aren’t preparing your own food, because prepared food is so often adulterated with sugars and breading. But ketosis burns fat while letting you maintain a protein intake for muscle. Better that you continue to do some exercise while on the diet, though.
What I have seen in experiments reported on the internet is that prolonged fasting leads to not much lean mass loss, and that lean loss recovers in a couple of days.
My experience, however is that I just get very very hungry if I don’t eat enough protein. Maybe the results show little harmful effect on lean mass, because those who would suffer substantial loss of lean mass find the regime too tough.
Consider the sardine and mackerel diet.
Evidence of the benefits of long fasts are overwhelming especially if you have any sort of chronic health problem as basically your body consumes its bad tissue and makes new stem cells to replace it during fasts, and if you are overweight at all like most Americans you will not lose any muscle. If you are not though you should actually put on a bit of excess fat before a fast. If you fast intermittently and frequently you have to do it right.
Videos by Ben Azadi (yes I know he looks like Ben Stiller’s character in Dodgeball) have convinced me I need to do 5 days to deal with stubborn blood pressure (I’m on day 3, ive done 3 day fasts before but its been a while and you really get deep tissue repair if you can make 5)… The body in starvation mode is programmed to consume all your junk tissue and fat before it starts consuming any muscle. Further you’ll get a massive human growth hormone spike which prompts repair of any malfunctioning systems besides. I wish I could do seafood because Ben Azadi (who I am much enamoured with lately because I can implement some of his suggestions despite my taste preferences being unusually wired to hate certain types of food and he actually explains things).
I really wish I could do seafood and some bitter leafy greens without throwing up but there are a lot of his recommendations I can implement. Another thing he says is don’t use mouthwash (fucks up your nitric oxide) and use organic cocunut oil to do a long rinse instead…

That general category of foods basically any green vegetable yeah.
There’s no such thing as junk tissue in an energy context. You only have 3 energy systems: phosphagen (creatine/ATP), glycolytic (sugar) and oxidative (fat/protein), prioritized in that order. If you’re not taking in enough carbohydrates to satisfy the glycolytic system then the oxidative system is running at full throttle, first using any dietary fat/protein and then stored fat/protein.
These systems aren’t intelligent, they don’t prioritize “bad” tissue over “good”, it’s simply energy efficiency. Fat holds more than twice the energy of protein in the same mass, so it’s more efficient to burn. But it’s not like there’s a queue, and all the fat and “junk” goes out preferentially before any muscle tissue or other protein goes out. Everything that can be burned, will be burned, with protein being burned at a lower rate for normal 15-18%ish body fat compositions, and an even lower rate for the obese. That is why cutting gets harder and harder as the body fat percentage gets lower and lower: if most of your energy is stored in muscle tissue, then despite fat being more energetic per unit, the much higher mass of muscle tissue starts to look like a better source of energy.
The relevance of senescent cells and other undesirable tissue is that since long-term fasts require the body to burn literally everything that’s stored, it’s an effective way to flush them out. They aren’t flushed out preferentially, they’re flushed out incidentally, but that’s fine because you’re going to replace the good parts.
Yeah, I’m gonna amplify Jim on this one: if you want to lose weight, eat less. These “hacks” don’t work*, and when some writer/influencer starts recommending them, that’s when it’s time to move on.

This is incorrect. Your mtor level controls a broad variety of systems for trashing stuff that is defective, or just not currently needed. When you fast, the trash cleanup system gets activated.
This has a cosmetic effect on your skin — loose skin gets tightened. When a fast goes past three days, the cleanup process get going on atherosclerotic plaque, scar tissue, and stuff.
There is an extremely complex and highly selective system for deciding what gets trashed and shoveled into the furnace during a fast. If you are fat, you are probably not only carrying a whole lot of fat, but a whole lot of protein tissue that should have been junked, but was left around as protein reserve.
Not all lean tissue is equal. Some of it is junk. If you are overweight, probably quite a lot of your lean mass is junk. And just as old people find it harder to avoid getting fat, old people tend to have more junk lean tissue even if they are not fat. As you get older, junk clean up gets turned down.

The eating protein early is also so you’re hunger hormones has less urge to eat.
And with long fasts yes you will get periods of massive hunger spikes (and with you mentioning protein also apparently the diet hack is your breakfast/first meal is supposed to be the highest protein meal for exactly that reason if you eat lots of protein early you will be far less hungry the rest of the day in general), if it gets unbearable and you have any freedom to leave your home go to a non resteraunt bar and get water… if you are at an office job site just don’t bring food. Maybe don’t bring anything you can pay the vending machine with if you are that bad up with hunger if your work has vending machines. You can avoid having a lapse if food is unavailable in your location.

There is a book by cancer researcher Valter Longo which is rich in self-promotion, but also has some good science, “The Longevity Diet”. It advocates for a monthly 72 hour water fast for cancer prevention, especially in cancer survivors. After 72 hours of a water fast, the body induces apoptosis, in which pre-cancerous cells are cleaned out. Sadly I have seen no evidence that shorter fasts induce apoptosis, because I often find myself cheating after 48 hours or so, shame on me.
A “water fast” is not broken by black coffee, and I find it very helpful for reducing hunger pangs, at the cost of a little insomnia. I didn’t know about the claims that it induces chelation, but that would be fantastic.
I also agree that it seems very important to drink lots and lots of water to flush out toxins while fasting. While losing 40+ pounds of baby weight, Mrs. Mike in Boston paid careful attention to how much water she was drinking and how she felt, and that was her top piece of advice to me.
The Cominator’s advice on meals brings to mind the old proverb, “eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper,” which became a proverb for good reason. Do people not know this one anymore?
Dealing with hunger pangs is always difficult, but I have found that after awhile they go away. When I notice them, I try to keep that fact in mind. I also agree with The Cominator that just removing oneself from the presence of snacks can get you over the hump of hunger pangs. Often I need to spend a few hours working in a facility where food is not available, and I invariably get a hankering for a snack before heading in, almost certainly a psychological one. If I ignore it and head inside without snacking, the hankering goes away.
I hope these reflections are helpful to someone, just as Humungus’s words have been a helpful reminder to me to resume the weight training I have been neglecting in favor of work and summertime fun with the kids.
Re about cheating after 48 hours* like I said try to get away from where food is available during any intense hunger spikes. And an intense hunger spike is a good time to take your olive oil spoonful (which apparently you can do because it causes no insulin spike and even digesting the fat doesn’t throw you out of autophagy if you take just a small amount)…

Be sure to eat plenty of fat too. In the morning I’ll eat a ribeye or 80/20 ground beef or lamb with eggs and butter, and I’m not thinking about food all day long even with heavy physical or mental work. When supper time comes I’m thinking, nonchalantly, “yeah, I guess I should eat something.”
If I do snack during the day it’s a few tablespoons of high fat Greek yogurt with cinnamon. Or just a slice of cool butter straight. I’ve also munched on (pure) pork rinds with pats of butter, but I’m a bit suspicious of the composition of those pigs because it depends so much on what they were fed, not being ruminant animals. I’m thinking of soy, omega 6, linoleic acid and such here.
For the most part I avoid fruits, vegetables, and nuts, but I am both married and part of society so I give in and have a few to avoid being a total jerk. Fruit is full of sugar and vegetables are full of defensive toxins. Gorillas and ruminant animals (cows) can properly digest plant matter and I ain’t one of them. The pH of my stomach acid is way down there with wolves and lions, slightly above buzzards, so I eat plenty of meat but avoid carrion.
Vegetables and nuts can also bind with nutrients and make them unusable. I like almonds, but the oxalates can bind with calcium, possibly leading to kidney stones. Vegetables are waging chemical warfare so I am very cautious. I do like the nicotine in cigar smoke though.
I haven’t done tons of research on all this, just going with what tends to make my belly flat, lats wider, and visceral fat evaporate. Primarily going with what makes me feel good, lean, feisty, bright, and clear, not obsessing too much over The Science.
RE I just broke my fast so as far as early morning protein. Being an eccentric supertaster I’m not going to be eating a steak in the morning (steaks are not quite an instabarf but I really don’t like them I know thats heresy) and certainly not eggs (which are an instabarf for me when they touch my tongue)… but what has protein I can eat. Plain organic greek yogurt (has protein) and mixing blueberries+raspberries together makes all three items together taste far better than they would be on their own.
Oh butter is good for fat but unfortunately a lot of butter brands now are a lot closer to butter substitutes you unfortunately can’t use great value or land of lakes brand as I found out recently… The cheapest good butter is probably kerrygold.
To add I have used 2 different GLP-1 drugs in very moderate amounts for short periods of time and they work incredible if you already know how to cut weight the hard way. And for myself they did serve to reset my body weight to a new normal in that I did not gain the weight back.
Depending on what side effects you experience don’t know why anyone wouldn’t use them as an aid.
There is not better way of losing weight than just not eating very often.
There are recently ways I found to hack this though so basically you don’t have the hunger pangs as much. Apparently the easiest ones according to Ben Azadi…
1. Breakfast or whatever your first meal should be the highest protein one of the day. Take apple cider vinegar beforehand (there is controversy about ACV but apparently the time to take it is 15 minutes before eating). This will help you avoid any urge to snack. Also a table spoonful of high quality organic cold pressed olive oil (the good stuff should burn your throat slightly) in the morning before eating anything.
2. Do what light exercise you can IMMEDIATELY after eating even if its wall sits. Ideally walk 20 minutes.
3. Take magnesium immediately before bed and especially try to avoid eating 3 hours before bed.
There is a lot of other stuff he gives as information but those are really easy ones and the timing is important. Another random health tip I had no idea of (and it probably caused me problems because I had to regularly use antiseptic mouthwash for a while) is no antiseptic mouthwash it likely causes blood pressure spikes regardless of anything else you do (you can use organic cocunut oil twice a week with a long rinse, spit in trash not sink).

It is not optimal, but neither is being obese. At the point where most people are starting, they are having to make major tradeoffs. I’ve done fasting, I’ve done heavy lifting, and briefly I did both. It works, short term, but it is not sustainable. However, it is a shock to the system that will force a change.
If someone is overweight or obese, they have to lose weight pretty rapidly. Oftentimes there is a decent amount of muscle underneath just to carry the fat, so maintaining muscle while losing fat is good progress. If they don’t lose enough weight, then the additional weight of the muscle can put strain on joints and tendons.
Rapid fatloss needs to be offset by drinking lots of water, tea or coffee, and fats like good quality butter or coconut oil. There are a lot of toxins stored in fat, so when you lose fat, they flush into your system and your body can end up trying to rebuild fat stores to quarantine toxins. Coffee and tea are chelators to carry toxic metals out of your system. Water provides a route for water soluble toxins, and butter or coconut oil does the same for fat soluble toxins, while providing clean energy for your system to burn.
Long fasts optimak… given the amount of bad stuff in the American food supply (plastics, estrogens, glyphosates) which unless you’ve been doing an organic health nut diet are hard to avoid deep autophagy is a good way to get rid of years of buildup of it.
What’s the best way to get plastics or transfats out of your body?
With plastics and heavy metals long fasts are really the only way I know of from the information I’ve heard other than being in a place where the food and water supply are totally uncontaniminated for a very long time. The deep autophagy and fat loss of a long fast gets them SOME of them out though… probably not all given all the plastics absorbed in an American diet.

Being fat is no joke, it slows you down and saps your stamina. Exercising outside under the sun accomplishes several things, fresh air, absorbing sunlight, resistance to working in the heat, etc.
Your goal is not to become a bodybuilder, it is to become a lean road warrior able to endure the heat.
You should be able to cheaply make a 120 pound barbell. With this you can do some basic exercises. Start with a full clean and press and repeat. This will exercise much of your body and build stamina. Do this until tired, rest and repeat. Add other exercises later and increase weight.
Again, I’m not writing about bodybuilding or powerlifting. You will have no need of that when society falls and the excess weight of even muscle will hinder you. Your goal is to be lean, strong and tough made of gristle and bone for maximum effectiveness.
The exercise above will get you started. That is the core movement so always include it. You can add others if you like.
You will need to defend yourself and having a gun may not always be possible. From this day on, carry a bat and some balls in your vehicle. Use it on occasion, it is good exercise. If you are asked about it, it is batting practice. Also, have a shovel in your vehicle and sharpen the edge.
Hand to hand. You must learn how to punch. Study the correct way, boxing or karate. Punch from the shoulder in straight line while rotating the forearm and torso into the object. Do not punch roundhouse fashion. Once you have the basic move down, begin to strengthen it using weights, both hands. Your goal is not to become a professional fighter but to deliver several very hard debilitation blows.
Do this and you will get results. You will see a rise in energy level and shed unneeded weight. Your confidence will increase, you will find a woman suitable for you and you will survive.

I’d guess the main the reason why the military has such a large drinking problem is due to what they call “moral injury”. Alcohol increases endorphin activity and numbs the guilt and shame. It’s why I got into drinking in the first place, and have been on and off with drinking for the last decade. Fast forward to GWOT and an array of fires required routing all the way up the chain of command, at times all the way to the Pentagon for approval. That hasn’t changed all that much, and the physical C2 architecture remains the same, something which can’t just change on the fly in the event of.
This is a contributing factor on why we haven’t clearly won a war since WW2. On the ground reality can’t be sent up the chain of command, rather higher’s political delusions get forced down the ranks.

It sucks but its generally the basic story of peacetime militaries especially in declining states throughout history, don’t blame yourself (in WW1 it was the story of most of the militaries involved, arguably not the Germans until late into the war) the doctrine is all based on the last major war that was fought + maybe some theoryizing by staff officers and generals on new tech who maybe they have the right ideas about the new tech and maybe they don’t. If its so psychologically damaging for you that you have to become a severe alcoholic (while not having the genetics that dispose one to severe alcoholism) maybe you should look to plan your exit from the service. Not at the point of a severe alcoholic, but definitely not going to be combat effective if it comes to that. Get through 18 drinks through the weekends, which at my age is not good. Unfortunately, that level of drinking is more common than you’d think among officers, most are discrete about it.

Saying to men downward the chain of command “This is certain to fail and you’re all going to die while trying” is a surefire way make things significantly worse by adding a whole bunch of uncertainty. In war, bad plans get you killed, uncertainty gets you killed, bad plans plus uncertainty is how you get everyone killed. There are a lot of case studies and AARs that show that when acting confidently and cohesively, it’s possible some will survive bad plans.
In a functioning military, Officers are able to push uncertainty up the chain of command which allows higher to modify planing, but for the last couple of decades it’s been more likely to kill your career because of immense political pressure from civilian leaders (i.e see what happened to all those who opposed women in combat roles).
A bad plan is not a lie. If you get bad plans from your superiours, these plans are still better than no plan. You can present a bad plan and honestly say that this plan is the best plan you have and it is better than no plan. Officers had to execute less than perfect plans in every military. That has always been part of the job. Don’t make moral problems where there are none.
As the Cominator suggests, you can perform that duty in a way so minimal that it is likely to be ineffective and counterproductive.
